Bahcesehir University (BAU) is an Istanbul-based foundation university whose founding idea dates to 1998. It spreads across eight campuses in Beşiktaş along the Bosphorus and teaches mainly in English, offering more than 160 undergraduate and graduate programmes. Official figures list 22,793 students: 18,617 at bachelor's level, 721 associate, 3,014 master's and 441 doctoral. Some 7,260 international students from 126 countries, together with 63,209 graduates, give the institution a markedly international character.

About the university
Overview
It comprises ten faculties, a school of applied sciences, a conservatory, an institute and 31 research centres. Industry links are extensive: partnerships with more than 3,000 companies, over 11,000 CO-OP internships, 157 Erasmus agreements and 133 bilateral protocols. MÜDEK accredits its industrial, electrical and electronics, and energy systems engineering programmes.
Campus and facilities
Most of the eight campuses sit in Beşiktaş, along the Bosphorus. The library holds more than 1.64 million information sources, while the university has 315 laboratories and workshops and 92 student clubs run activities. The Ortaköy student apartments offer single, double and triple rooms plus individual cabin-style options.
Rankings
BAU sits in the 801-1000 band of the THE World University Rankings 2026 and is 9th nationally. In the THE Impact Rankings 2025 it scored 59 worldwide and placed first among Turkish state and foundation universities, including 2nd nationally for gender equality. QS Sustainability 2026 puts it at 1151-1200.
Latest developments
In September 2026 the university published information on DGS registration for the 2026-2027 academic year. Dates and entry lists for the additional-quota talent examinations were announced for textile and fashion design, the conservatory, and cartoon and animation. A notice on the 2026 student amnesty, law 7592, was also released.
