Biruni University is a foundation university in Istanbul offering associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral education in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health sciences, engineering, education and applied sciences. Theory is supported by laboratory work, scientific research, clinical training, project development and hospital practice, and students, especially in health programmes, make use of university hospitals, simulation laboratories and clinical practice centres. The main campus in Zeytinburnu lies close to the Cevizlibağ metrobus and tram stops and to Kazlıçeşme Marmaray station, and teaching is given in Turkish or English depending on the programme.

Overview
Around 23,000 square metres of laboratory space is reserved for students, covering fields from genomics and tissue engineering to drug discovery, artificial intelligence and medical skills. The library holds 655,863 information resources, including 30,065 printed books and 87,725 e-books, and more than 3,000 international students are enrolled.
Campus and facilities
The main campus in Zeytinburnu brings together the faculties, the vocational school, the graduate institute, laboratories, simulation areas, libraries, congress halls and dentistry units. The Biruni Teknopark campus in Kazlıçeşme supports technology development, entrepreneurship and incubation services, while medical students complete clinical training at the university hospital in Küçükçekmece.

In the 2025–2026 general ranking for Türkiye, Biruni University places 61st. Among universities with a medical faculty it ranks 46th, and its total URAP score stands at 687.08.
Latest developments
Scopus data show the Faculty of Dentistry at 94 publications by 20 July 2026, fourth among Türkiye's 97 dentistry faculties and top among foundation university dentistry faculties. The university also reports six years in first place among Turkish foundation universities for student projects funded in the TÜBİTAK 2209 programmes.
