Fatih Sultan Mehmet University is a foundation university offering associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies in social sciences, basic sciences, engineering, architecture, law, education and Islamic studies. Its approach blends a long-standing waqf culture with historical heritage, research and contemporary technology. About the university
Overview
The university is one of two foundation institutions under the General Directorate of Foundations, with teaching in Turkish, English or Arabic. Its libraries hold more than 100,000 printed books and close to 300,000 e-books, while ALUTEAM and KURAM work in industry and cultural heritage and Erasmus+ and MÜDEK processes continue.
Campus and facilities
The Haliç campus hosts engineering and architecture studios, while the rectorate occupies the Yenikapı Mevlevi Lodge site dating to the 16th century. Law and humanities are taught in Fatih Zeyrek, and Islamic studies at the Üsküdar site inside Mimar Sinan's Atik Valide complex. Gülhane building houses the continuing education centre.

In the 2025-2026 Türkiye ranking published by URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance), the university holds 156th place. The result marks an improvement on the previous period, in a table that compares universities on academic performance.
Latest developments
ALUTEAM has signed new research support protocols with industry partners for domestic production and testing projects serving the defence and manufacturing sectors. Restoration work and the digitisation of rare manuscripts carried out by KURAM and the Manuscript Research Centre continue to feed Türkiye's cultural heritage inventory.
