Istanbul Gedik University was founded in 2010 within the Gedik Education and Social Aid Foundation, which dates back to 1994. Its founding purpose was to strengthen cooperation between industry and academia, which is why its identity centres on welding technology, materials, robotics and additive manufacturing. The foundation's founder, Halil Kaya Gedik, was an industrialist who brought precision casting technology to Türkiye. The university also holds a strong position in sports sciences and health sciences.

About the university
Overview
Faculties of law, economics and social sciences, engineering, health and sports sciences are joined by the Gedik Vocational School and a graduate institute. Teaching runs in Turkish and English; international applicants to Turkish-medium programmes need a B2 level TÖMER certificate. It belongs to EAQUALS and the European University Association.
Campus and facilities
The main campus in Kartal is joined by two sites in Pendik: the Halil Kaya Gedik campus and the vocational school campus. The welding laboratory is the flagship facility, alongside materials and casting laboratories. Seven dormitories house students, and the Gedik Philharmonic Orchestra and Radio Gedik enliven campus life.
