Bezmiâlem Foundation University brings health-focused education, research and healthcare together within a single institution in Istanbul. Established as a higher education institution in 2010, it traces its institutional heritage to the Gureba-i Müslimin Hospital founded by Bezmiâlem Valide Sultan in 1845. Bachelor's programmes run in the faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and health sciences, with associate degrees at the vocational school of health services. About the university
Overview
The academic focus lies mainly in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health sciences and health services. Official figures record roughly 700 academics for more than 3,200 students, close to one academic for every five students. The university hosts Türkiye's first phytotherapy centre together with extensive OSCE halls and skills laboratories.
Campus and facilities
The Vatan Campus in Topkapı, Fatih, houses the rectorate and central academic units together with the faculties of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy. Health Sciences teaches at the Eyüp campus in Eyüpsultan. The İlhan Varank Campus in Sultangazi is an additional site used for courses, examinations and preparatory programmes.
Rankings
In the URAP 2025-2026 Türkiye ranking the university places 25th overall among 198 universities. Among the country's 73 foundation universities it stands 5th, in a table based on academic performance indicators.
Latest developments
The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation received five-year accreditation from FTR-AD in 2026, valid until 30 March 2031. That same year the university held talks with international higher education representatives at APAIE 2026 and continued its preparations for the YÖKAK institutional accreditation process.
